Azurite with Malachite

Azurite with malachite is a mineral combination that occurs when azurite, a deep blue carbonate mineral, and malachite, a green carbonate mineral, grow together. Azurite is a copper mineral that forms in the oxidized zone of copper deposits, often in association with other copper minerals such as malachite. Malachite is also a copper mineral that forms through the weathering of copper ore deposits.

Azurite with malachite is usually found as botryoidal masses, nodules, or crusts, with a banded or swirling pattern of blue and green. The blue color is due to the presence of copper ions in the azurite, while the green color of malachite is also caused by the presence of copper, but with the addition of water and carbonate ions.
